Welcome to Merungle Alpaca Stud
Established in 1993, Merungle Alpaca Stud is one of Gippsland's most experienced alpaca operations. Owners Jen and Peter McDavitt bring decades of hands-on experience and a genuine farming background to everything they do — and they love sharing that knowledge with newcomers to the industry.
Merungle offers a carefully selected range of animals for sale, backed by exceptional bloodlines including Purrumbete Highlander, Peruvian Sonoma, Peruvian Legend, Peruvian Pluro, Purrumbete Inti, Peruvian Don Julio, Peruvian Chief, Peruvian Kosako, and our celebrated home-bred grey male Merungle Hot Chili — who dominated the show ring's grey section for four consecutive years.
Beyond sales, Merungle hosts handling workshops, on-farm open days, and farm visits by appointment, and is a regular presence at agricultural shows and field days across the region.
Life at Merungle
Running an alpaca stud is a year-round commitment, and there's always something happening both on and off the farm.
On the farm, our calendar revolves around the animals — from birthing and weaning through to matings, feeding, and general husbandry. We host farm visits by appointment and welcome visitors who want to see alpaca life up close. Each year we hold our annual shearing as well as a community shearing day, bringing local breeders together for a shared day's work.
Off the farm, you'll find us at markets, field days, and alpaca shows throughout the year. These events are always a highlight — there's nothing quite like connecting with people who are curious about alpacas and natural fibre. And we're still surprised by how many people have never had the chance to learn about wool as a natural fibre — its unique structure, its remarkable properties, and why it stands apart from synthetic alternatives. It's something we're passionate about sharing wherever we go.
